Daily Recap & Scores | Friday 6 December

Rain suspension and Friday night flights with home runs galore!

Back-to-back home runs put Cavalry up top 3-0 before match suspension

The Cavalry wasted no time in capitalising on early opportunities to gain a quick lead before the match was postponed.

Yokohama DeNA BayStars prospect Takuto Takada probably wishes the game suspension would have been later rather than sooner as he was on a roll tonight. Within his 2 innings pitched, he allowed just one base runner from a full-count walk, and only allowed one other Blue Sox hitter to reach 2 balls in the count as he struck out 2.

On the offensive end, a leadoff double from Miles Simington allowed the Cavalry to strike first two at-bats later with a 2-run blast from Jason Matthews.

It must already be Friday the 13th, because Jason murdered that ball 🦾🦾🦾

Robbie Perkins, who continues his renaissance season, followed it up with a home run of his own just two pitches later to make it 3-0 Canberra.

Number 9 is now tied for Number 8 on the ABL All Time Career Hits list!!! 🔥🔥🔥

Will Robbie Perkins surpass Luke Hughes tonight?!

Due to heavy rain, at the start of the third inning, the game was postponed with it scheduled to continue on the 7th of December at 3pm local time.

Melbourne Aces Defeat Perth Heat 11-8 in Back-and-Forth Slugfest, Take 2-0 Series Lead

In an action-packed affair at the ballpark, the Melbourne Aces outlasted the Perth Heat 11-8 on Friday night, claiming their second consecutive win of the Round 4 series and improving to 2-0 against the Heat.

Melbourne struck first in the bottom of the first inning, with Greg Bird’s RBI single opening the scoring for a 1-0 lead. The Aces continued to pile on the pressure in the second when Jarryd Dale blasted a three-run homer, pushing the score to 4-0 and giving the home side an early cushion.

Perth tried to chip away at the deficit in the top of the third, as Fumiya Kurokawa doubled home a run to make it 4-1. However, the Aces fired right back in the bottom half. Arturo Disla launched his second home run of the series—his sixth of the season, tops in the ABL—widening the gap to 5-1.

The Heat made their move in the top of the fourth, courtesy of back-to-back solo shots from Jhon Diaz and Alex Hall. Those two swings cut Melbourne’s lead to 5-3 and set the stage for a tense middle portion of the game.

In the fifth, Perth completed their comeback with a pair of run-scoring hits: Jess Williams’ RBI double and Kurokawa’s RBI single drew the teams level at 5-5.

Faced with a tie ballgame, the Aces answered immediately in the bottom of the fifth. Robbie Glendinning’s solo home run regained the lead at 6-5. Moments later, Darryl George added another solo shot, stretching the margin to 7-5. George’s homer was historic—his 40th career round-tripper for the Aces, surpassing Brad Harman’s franchise record and placing him in 10th on the ABL’s all-time home run list.

The Heat refused to go quietly, however. In the top of the sixth, they struck for three runs, highlighted by Williams’ RBI single, a Kurokawa sacrifice fly, and Diaz’s second RBI hit of the night, vaulting Perth ahead 8-7.

Melbourne was not done yet. In the bottom of the sixth, Glendinning delivered again, this time with an RBI single that knotted the game at 8-8.

After a scoreless seventh, the bottom of the eighth brought decisive drama. With Jarrod Belbin on base, a strikeout swinging turned into an unexpected run when a wild pitch allowed Belbin to score, putting Melbourne back in front 9-8. Greg Bird then provided the final blow, knocking in two more runs with a single to seal the Aces’ 11-8 advantage.

This seesaw contest featured plenty of power and clutch hits on both sides, but it was the Aces’ resilience and timely offense that ultimately prevailed. Melbourne now holds a 2-0 lead in the Round 4 series and will look to carry this momentum forward as the match-up continues.

3 Home Runs Propels Giants Past Bandits 9-5

The storms might not have been in Brisbane like it was in Canberra and Melbourne, but that didn’t stop the Giants from bringing the rain.

Giants starter and Yomiuri Giants prospect Ryusei Yamada was nothing short of spectacular tonight on the mound. Pitching 7 innings, he allowed only 3 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 7 without allowing a single earned run.

山田龍聖、すごすぎる!!!🔥🔥🔥

On the offensive end, it was the three home runs in the second and third innings that gave the Giants enough insurance runs that prevented a late-game comeback attempt by the Bandits. Jordan McArdle began the long-distance party with solo shot to right centre field in the top of the second, followed by a 2- and 3-run blast from Rixon Wingrove and Lou Albrecht in the top of the third that brought the score to a gargantuan 8-0.

Wingrove finished the night going 3-for-4 from the plate with a home run and 4 RBIs to lead the defending champions.

McArdle, Albrect, and Niko Hulsizer added 2 hits each.

For the Bandits, their starter and Samsung Lions prospect Dae-Ho Kim will toss this game up to experience. He finished his outing going 2.2 innings, allowing 8 runs off of 7 hits and 4 walks while striking out 3.

Sam Holland pitched 3.1 relief innings and dazzled on the mound, allowing just 1 run off of 2 hits while striking out 5.

While the Bandits did lose the game 9-5, they did not go quietly into the night. Kansas City Royals prospect Brennan McNair continues his hot streak by hitting two consecutive 2-run home runs in the 6th and the 8th inning to put the Giants on their toes.

When Brennon McNair hits a second home run before admin could even post the first home run…🤯🤯🤯

TSG Hawks prospect Lin Jai-Hong was also fantastic at the plate, going 3-for-4.

The Giants will look to win the series tomorrow, while the Bandits will look to build off the late-game momentum in their attempt to even the series.
